I am beyond excited to be joining the team at Positive Future Self as an Intern Counsellor. Having completed a Diploma in Counselling, I am now advancing my education and Knowledge with a Bachelor in Counselling at ACAP.
My journey into counselling is influenced by my work as a case manager in disability and employment services. This role provided me with the privilege of supporting clients through diverse life challenges, empowering them to find meaningful employment and watching them grow in self-confidence and independence. One of the most transformative experiences in my career has been working in the correctional system, where I was able to provide support to First Nations offenders through the "Time to Work” program. In this role, I was able to guide individuals preparing for release, helping them navigate their reintegration into society and the workforce. This experience profoundly impacted me, offering a unique insight into the resilience of the human spirit and the complexities of life’s journey. It deepened my belief that people should not be defined by their mistakes, but by their potential for growth and change.
I am committed to providing care that is both trauma-informed and culturally safe. I believe that counselling is a partnership, working alongside clients to help them achieve their goals in a way that respects their personal stories and honours their individual paths. My approach is deeply empathetic, ensuring that each client feels seen, heard, and understood. I understand that healing is not a one-size-fits-all process, but a deeply personal journey that requires a tailored, person-centered approach. I especially enjoy working with youth and young adults, recognizing the importance of early intervention and support in helping them navigate the complexities of adolescence and early adulthood. Dedicated to fostering self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of well-being in the people I work with. Having a holistic approach to counselling means that we don’t just focus on addressing immediate concerns but rather we work alongside each other to develop long-term strategies for personal growth, resilience, and mental well-being.
Outside of my professional life, I am a devoted family person. Time at home is spent with my husband, two children, and our beloved pets—Bear, the loyal dog, and Larry, the chatty bird. A self-proclaimed homebody, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, especially tending to my garden on the weekends, giving me a sense of peace and fulfillment.
My personal and professional experiences inspire my dedication to helping others, and I look forward to continuing to grow in my role as a counsellor, where I can apply compassion, evidence-based approaches, and dedication to helping clients overcome challenges, build resilience, and find strength in their unique life experiences.
